WhatsApp API with QR Code Login: Get an API Key and Automate Messages

How a QR-code WhatsApp API works: scan to connect, receive an API key, send messages from your own software — plus the limits to know first.

On 13 October 2026 I started building a WhatsApp automation platform at ZAMAN IT, now running at wa.zamanit.com.bd. This note explains the idea behind a QR-code WhatsApp API in plain terms, because it is the question people ask first: how do I connect WhatsApp to my own software?

What is a WhatsApp API with QR code login?

It is a service that lets you connect a WhatsApp number to a dashboard by scanning a QR code — the same way you link WhatsApp Web — and then gives you an API key. With that key your own software can send messages through simple HTTP requests instead of someone typing them on a phone.

The flow in four steps

  1. 01Scan the QR code from the dashboard using WhatsApp on the phone.
  2. 02The number is connected and an API key is issued.
  3. 03Call the send endpoint with the key, the recipient and the message.
  4. 04Receive incoming messages on your server through a webhook.
bash···
# Illustrative request — send a text message with your API key
curl -X POST https://wa.zamanit.com.bd/api/send -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{ "to": "88017XXXXXXXX", "message": "Your order has shipped." }'

Why a QR code instead of a long approval process?

Connecting by QR code removes the setup barrier: a small business can be sending automated messages the same day. The trade-off is that it uses WhatsApp the way a linked device does, so it must be used responsibly.

What to know before you automate

  • Message people who expect to hear from you. Unsolicited or bulk messaging can get a number restricted.
  • Keep the phone connected and the session healthy; a disconnected session cannot send.
  • Do not treat it as a replacement for WhatsApp's official business products where those are required.
  • Follow WhatsApp's terms and local law — that responsibility stays with the sender.

What it is good for

Order and delivery updates, appointment reminders, auto-replies to common questions, lead capture and support routing. Pair it with a webhook and the same number can also react to what customers write back — covered in the next note on WhatsApp webhook automation.

Status

In progress. See the project page for how it is being built and where it is headed.
